Elle vient de Norvège, de la région de Hardanger. Cette technique de broderie trouve son origine dans la broderie ajourée, c’est-à-dire que le dessin n’est pas reporté sur le tissu, mais qu’on le réalise d’après une grille que l’on consulte tout en brodant, comme au point de croix.
