I absolutely love the holiday season. It's a nostalgic time for me, filled with many fond memories. Every year, I transform the house into Santa's Grotto. There is nothing better than watching my favorite festive films with the Christmas tree in prize position, covered tastefully in decorations and fairy lights. For me, it’s a fabulously creative time of year, and I would like to share some of that with you.
Firstly, though, if you have picked up this publication, you are likely to be aware of the environmental impact the holidays have on our planet. In fact, it is notorious for creating a lot of waste. Americans throw away 25 percent more trash from Thanksgiving to New Year's than any other time of year, about one million extra tons per week. It's not much better in the UK: approximately 500 tonnes of fairy lights and 108 million rolls of gift wrap are disposed of every year A lot of this will end up in landfill because it is tainted with materials such as glitter and metallic plastic coatings, which cannot be recycled.
